PEGGY MUNRO
1920 -2013
Peggy Munro, beloved wife of the late Alexander Munro, passed away peacefully at the Trinity Care Centre in Penticton, BC on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the age of 93 years.
Peggy was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on February 27, 1920 to John and Lizzie Richardson. She was the first of two children, her brother Ron being two years younger. Peggy spent her early years on a farm near High Bluff, MB. The family moved to Portage la Prairie in 1927. Peggy attended Central School and Portage Collegiate. Her early life was centered around the church and Peggy enjoyed playing softball and skating on Crescent Lake. Peggy was employed by MTS as a telephone operator where she met and made many life long friends. On October 23, 1948 Peggy married Alexander Munro at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Portage la Prairie. While living in Portage, Peggy and Alex had two children, Pat and Richard. Peggy and Alex moved to Neepawa, MB in 1972 where they owned and operated Neepawa Ford. In 1979 they moved to Penticton, BC and in 2012 Peggy moved to the Trinity Care Centre. Throughout the years Peggy enjoyed curling, bowling, square dancing, playing cards, gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, the Altar Guild and the ACW. In Penticton, Peggy and Alex helped organize the Manitoba Picnic. In the later years her life was wrapped up in her home, family and friends.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Ron Richardson on March 5, 2013 and her loving husband of 52 years Alexander Munro on June 16, 2001.
Peggy is lovingly remembered by her two children: Daughter Pat (Robert) Sylvester of Nelson, BC and Grandchildren Chris (Melanie) and their children Cade and Brooke of Amman, Jordan; Leigh (Elyssa) and their children Tayler and Ty of Edmonton, AB; Tricia of Castlegar, BC. Son Richard (Paulette) of Kelowna, BC and Grandchildren Shawn (Sacha) and their children Chloe and Chelsey of Calgary, AB; Michelle (Alain) Samson and their children Alexandre and Sophie of Airdrie, AB; Bailey of Nashville, TN; Brock of Kelowna, BC; Bree of Kelowna, BC; Naythan of Ft. McMurray, AB; and Corey of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by her nephew James Richardson of White Rock, BC and niece Joan Richardson of Langley, BC, several sister and brother-in-laws and their families, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held from Saint Saviour’s Anglican Church in Penticton on Monday, May 27, 2013 with Rev. Canon Mike Stuchbery officiating. Visitation will commence at 11:30AM followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.
