Messer, Robert "Bob" Glenn

(April 6th, 2023)

Robert “Bob” Glenn Messer, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 6:30 p.m., Thursday April 6, 2023.

Bob was born Mother’s Day, May 9, 1939, in Trail BC, where in the hospital, the temperature was 40 degrees with no air conditioning. He never did like too warm of weather. He was the second oldest of 4 children – Joan, Bob, Donna and then Carol. He then spent his life in Rossland and Nelson.

Bob met his soon to be wife Donalda Dunstan, at the Civic Arena while skating in 1958 and were married at the Mission Covenant Church in Nelson on Canada Day in 1961. They became proud parents in 1970 with Kent, then again with Kara in 1976.

Bob spent his working career as a branch manager and salesman for Bitco and Kaman Bearing until he retired in 1995.

Bob and Donalda built their dream home on Kootenay Lake in 1972 and lived there until 1988 when they moved to uphill in Nelson. They lived there until the “calling of the lake” beckoned them, moving back down to the lakeside on 7th street in 2013.

Bob and Donalda were married for 57 years until Donalda’s passing in July of 2018.

Bob was very much a car guy owning over 27 new vehicles in his life, countless used vehicles and even motorcycles. He still had car magazines beside his chair which he read regularly.

Bob loved and cared deeply for his family, who were his prized possession. He is survived by his son Kent (Robin), his daughter Kara (Troy), three grandchildren Shana, Sophie and River and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob’s dream car was a 1957 Thunderbird – with the porthole windows. Although Bob never got his dream car, we are sure Bob and Donalda are cruising somewhere together in one now.

There will be a celebration of Bob’s life at a later date.
