McGhie, Rose Jaraslawa

Rose Jaraslawa McGhie (nee Ludwig) (October 14, 1927 – April 25, 2011)
It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Rose – daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother.
Rose was born in Poland on October 14, 1927 to Micheline and Jacob Ludwig. The family emigrated to Canada, settling in Nelson, BC, when Rose was 2 years old. Survived by her sisters Eleanor (Ray, Nelson, BC) and Maryanne (Fred, Nelson, BC).
Rose and Robert McGhie met and were married in Ottawa in 1948. They shared 62 years together. Rose is survived by her children, Bonnie (Edson, AB), Bobby (Janice, Ponoka, AB), Donna (Murray, Victoria, BC), Karen (Bobby, Edson, AB), Cheryl (Chuck, Kelowna, BC).
Rose enjoyed nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandson. BeeJee, her beloved cat is left to look after Bob! After completing her schooling, including college, in Nelson, Rose began her career working for the federal government. She transferred to the Ottawa office in 1942. Rose and Bob were married in Ottawa on October 11, 1948.
In 1950 they moved back to Nelson where they raised their 5 children. Rose was employed as a secretary at the Nelson School District for 20 years.
You never went anywhere quickly with Rose as she was often recognized by numerous former students and continued to correspond with several. Rose lead a full, active, and rewarding life of gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, preserving, camping, art classes, fishing, walking, crocheting, travelling, crafting and socializing with friends – all the while working full time at the school. Rose will be remembered forever for her quick smile, her warm hugs, her sociable and accommodating nature, her love of all animals and music, being a loving, caring, and generous Mom and a life long partner and friend.
A viewing took place at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd. (April 27-28, 2011). Cremation followed.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Rose’s life will take place at a later date.
