Mawer, Art

(April 13th, 2023)

It is with great sadness that the family of Art Mawer announce his passing on April 13, 2023, with his family by his side. Art was born in Nelson, BC, on December 27, 1937. to Bud (Fred) & Helen Mawer and continued to live in the place he loved for the remainder of his life. In 1962 he married the love of his life Carol and spent 60 years loving her. Art spent his career working for West Kootenay Power as an electrician and in later years, a manager. Art is survived with much love by his wife Carol, daughter Marilyn (Roger) Aubert, son Brian (Julie) Mawer, his wonderful grandchildren Jared, Joel, Noah, Aryana, his sister Joan Howell, and two nieces Kristen and Shannon. Art made a friend everywhere he went and held each one dear. Predeceased by his parents and many of his buds that he hunted with but kept the stories alive till his last day.

The pride and joy of Art’s life were his grandchildren Jared, Joel, Noah, and Aryana, oh and of course the deals he made at every garage sale he could find. Many treasures he found and fixed up and sold. Retiring in 1994 he was able to enjoy his many hobbies such as golfing with the men’s senior club, hunting, fishing, wheeling and dealing at garage sales, and his daily morning walks with Tibo. He would share stories and cause shenanigans on the waterfront and on Balfour Golf Course in the summer.  He loved talking and telling stories of all his many adventures. His sense of humor will live on for years. Carol and Art went on many adventures including skiing in Europe.  A pioneer of Whitewater ski hill he skied right up until last year.  He took pride in visiting his buddies that weren’t well.  Always up to explain how anything worked. Art’s wisdom will be missed endlessly.

In honor of Art take a walk, bargain at a garage sale, dance with your partner, go fishing or tell a hilarious story that involved Art. Art had a great life, a great twinkle, a great sense of humor, lived life to the fullest-his way.
