Marion Hazel McMaster

Marion Hazel McMaster passed on to our Lord on April 21, 2011 at the age of 97 years.

She was born on September 18, 1913 to Samuel and Sarah McCartney of Yahk, B.C.

Hazel grew up in Yahk where her parents owned the General Store and attended school there until grade 10 at which time her and her sister Anne went to Nelson to attend St. Joseph’s School as boarders for grade 11 and 12. She then travelled to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver Institute of Fine Arts where she became a very skilled seamstress.

Upon her return to Yahk she met her husband Alvin and they raised 7 children mainly in Nelson where they took up residence in 1946. Mother was very active in Mount St. Francis Aux. (being one of the first members), the Girl Guides, and Boy Scouts.

She was an avid bowler and loved to spend time at the Seniors Society. Hazel treasured her family and family gatherings but especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Alvin in 1993, her parents, her beloved sister Anne, her brother Dan, daughter Patricia, son-in-law George Bradley, daughter-in-law Pauline McMaster and grandson Ian Witherspoon.

She is lovingly survived by her children, daughters Bobbie Bradley, Mary Witherspoon, and Margaret (Charlie) Shrieves, sons John (Dawn), Mickey and Sam (Anne), her brother Paul (Millie) McCartney, 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

“Your Love Will Be In Our Hearts Forever” Prayers will be celebrated on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7 p.m. from the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate and continuing on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial with Father Jim Ratcliffe as celebrant. Cremation will follow.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of Mountain Lake Seniors Community where she has resided for the past year and Castle Wood Village in Castlegar her residence for the previous seven years.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd.
