Mac Donald, Peter Delbert

(November 19th, 2022)

On June 13, 1938, Peter Delbert Mac Donald was born to Peggy and James MacDonald in Fernie, BC and grew up in Grasmere. He was 1 of 5 children. Peter married Merle (Ireton) April 1962 in Cranbrook, BC and had a daughter, Debora.

Peter followed in his father’s footsteps and made a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Working on such projects as The Duncan Dam, Salmo Creston Skyway, 7 Mile Dam, and Kootenay Canal. These projects is what brought Peter and his family to Nelson in 1965, where it became home.

When Peter was younger, he would jog to Taghum bridge and back, when he was older, he would walk on the old Burlington Rail Trail. He enjoyed watching sports, working in the garden and was an active member in the Ascension Lutheran Church. He loved spending time with his family.

After a short battle with cancer Peter passed away in his sleep November 19, 2022, at his new apartment in Nelson.

Peter was predeceased by his parents Peggy and James MacDonald, brother James MacDonald, sisters Jean Motlock, Alta Walmsley, and Marg Lightburn.

Peter is survived by his wife Merle, daughter Debora Pedersen (Don), granddaughters Melinda Pedersen (Jason) Nichole Croteau (Jordan), great-grandsons Anikin Pedersen, Bodhi and Bennett Croteau.

We would like to thank Dr. Czubanak, Dr Ackermann, The BC Cancer Centre and Cancer Lodge in Kelowna, Kootenay Lake Hospital and the Nelson Paramedics for their care and kindness. Also, Dr. Tubanac and Dr. Murray for their long -term care.
