Luck, Laura Carol
(January 28th, 2023)
Laura Carol Centrone died in Nelson, BC on January 28, 2023, at the age of 61. The eldest child of Mauro and Carol Centrone, Laura was born in Vancouver on April 4, 1961. Laura grew up with her three brothers, Mark, Mike, and Dean, to whom she was a loving sister. She was a dedicated daughter; after her mother Carol got cancer, Laura took excellent care of her until she passed. She then moved her father Mauro into her family home to lovingly watch over and care for him.
The majority of Laura’s childhood was spent in Nelson, BC where she attended Central, Trafalgar, and LV Rogers schools. After graduating high-school, Laura attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton. During her first year she met her future husband, Paul Luck. They were married on August 1, 1981, in Nelson and enjoyed a wonderful 42 years together. Together they had two boys: Jordan (38) and Pearce (36), both born in Edmonton. After five years together in Alberta the family moved to Nelson.
The boys were Laura’s pride and joy. They were blessed to have a mother who went above and beyond, ensuring they had every opportunity. She was known to drag them around in a wagon in sub zero temperatures to local pools, libraries, and kid’s events. She taught them reading and math skills before they started formal schooling, imparting a passion for academics. Laura was firm with the boys when needed, but always showered them with love, warmth, and praise. She was ever in attendance at the boys’ sporting events and activities.
Once the boys found wives, Laurie and Josephine, Laura was overjoyed (and relieved).
Laura loved Laurie and Josephine just like daughters and they loved her like a mother. In November 2020, Jordan and Josephine welcomed the arrival of their son, Josh. Laura was absolutely obsessed with her grandchild and when she couldn’t be there singing, reading, and playing with him in-person, she was looking at pictures and videos of him.
In addition to tutoring her boys and grandson, Laura was an amazing teacher. She started teaching at St Joseph School in 1991, where she taught for 32 years including several years as principal. She loved her job, teaching the kids and watching them grow. At the school, she loved the staff and formed many close life-long friendships.
Living in Nelson for almost her entire life, Laura greatly loved the town and its community. She cherished her many friendships, including Jen, with whom she was thick-as-thieves since high-school. She enjoyed sharing her passions for reading, singing, and art with her social circle. Laura was generous and caring and always put the needs of others before her own.
Laura is no longer with us but her warmth, generosity, friendship, and positivity will continue on with all the people she has touched. Her life was too short, her family has been blessed with the best daughter, wife, mother, sister, and grandmother they could ever imagine.
