Jordan, Lorna (nee Torwalt)

(August 14th, 2019)

Lorna (nee Torwalt) Jordan was born on March 4, 1931 to August and Emilie Torwalt and passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Kootenay Lake hospital in Nelson B.C.

Lorna grew up on the family farm north of Jansen, SK where she attended the Prairie Rose school. While at home Lorna loved horses and spent a lot of time riding and training them.

On October 15, 1950 she married Archie Jordan from the Dafoe district and moved to St. Catherines, ON for three years where she worked at a news agency. She returned to Saskatchewan and farmed for three years and the next move was to Wynyard. She worked at the Vogue theatre and then the Wynyard pharmacy. Archie had various jobs, primarily with the PFRA, until an opportunity took them to Midale where they operated the Midale Hotel and café for five years.

In Estevan, Lorna worked at a law firm until she made the move to Vancouver in 1980. Lorna worked for a law firm there for many years too, until her retirement.

Lorna was very active – going to exercise classes, line dancing, walks to English Bay every day, volunteering at “Be Well”, doing surveys for the international flights at the airport, working at Purdys, electoral officer during elections, riding her bike along the seawall, enjoying live theater, plays, rock concerts, and socializing with her many friends. She loved to bake and have friends come over for a cup of tea and share in her newest recipe.

Lorna loved to travel and went to Yellowknife, Texas, Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas as well as trips back home to visit family and friends.

Lorna was diagnosed with mild dementia in 2018, and it was then that she moved to Nelson, B.C. to be closer to Val.

Lorna will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughters and their families: Val (Frank) Nixon, (Winlaw, BC), Dawn (Dan) Wischniwsky, Dani, (Calgary), Michael (Abby) Roy, Bo, Leo (Nelson); Dianne (Wayne) Ortman (Carlyle, SK), Travis, (Lauri) Eagles, Hope, Hannah, Bethany, Bree (Winnipeg), Jarod (Jenn) Eagles, Asher, Zoe (Phoenix), Brayden (Corrina) DeLaet, (Regina); Brenda Gader, (Swift Current) Brody (Lethbridge). Brothers: Albert Torwalt (Humboldt) Ervin Torwalt (Leroy); Sisters: Minn Biedler (Vancouver), Jean Hoffman (Spalding), Janet Lissel (Humboldt), Florence Mierke (Shell Lake), Irene Friesen (Willie) (Lanigan) along with many nieces and nephews.

Lorna very much appreciated all of the help and support that Randy, her special nephew, gave her throughout the years she lived in Vancouver. Lorna was predeceased by Archie, parents August and Emilie, brothers Bill, and Louie. Brothers-in-law Ben Hoffman and Don Lissel. Sisters in law Beatrice Torwalt and Leatrice Torwalt.

Lorna’s wishes were that she be cremated and her ashes interred in Jansen, SK where her parents are buried.

A celebration of life will take place at the Jansen cemetery, summer of 2020, in Jansen, Saskatchewan.
