Herbert John Learmonth

Herbert John Learmonth
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bert Learmonth on May 01, 2011. Bert was born at Willow Point, Nelson, BC on May 26, 1924, the eldest of three children to John and Alice Learmonth. He enjoyed his younger years boating, fishing and working on the family farm with his Grandpa Holmberg.
He spent two years overseas serving in the Navy during WWII. After returning home he met Mary, the love of his life. They married in 1949 and had three children.
Bert was heavily involved with Scouting and enjoyed the outdoor experience. He enjoyed playing the drums and was part of the Nelson City Band.
Bert was a general contractor for many years prior to working for the Nelson School District where he drove a school bus and did maintenance work. After retirement in 1987 he spent his time enjoying his passion of model boat building and woodworking.
Bert is survived by his wife Mary, his three children Vic (Donna), Bob (Terri) and Suzanne, his sisters Marge and Marion, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Our husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa will be missed.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation.
A celebration of Bert’s life will be held on Saturday, May 07, 2011, from 2:00 pm – 5:00pm at 2652 Six Mile Lakes Road, Nelson, BC.
