Norman Hamson, a resident of Nelson, B.C., passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital on Friday, June 21,2024.
Norm was born October 30th, 1934 in Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson B.C.
At the age of 14 Norm became a member of the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band and started helping Pop Speirs Hauling match blocks, developing his strong work ethic. Norm married his wife Verna in 1958. They had four children, Patrick, Cheryl, Garth and Carrie.
Norm went to work in the Parts Department for Finning Tractor Co. in 1957. Norm’s career took him and his family from Nelson to Dawson Creek & Cranbook before returning to Nelson where he retired after 35 years in 1992. Norm and Verna retired up the lake and had 20 amazing years before moving into Lake View Village enjoying their new home and friendships.
Norm and Verna enjoyed close to 20 winters in Yuma as well as extended travel via cruise ship, but summers in Nelson fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends were the best.
Norm loved taking the kids out in the boat and always made sure the grandkids caught fish.
Norm always had a story to tell and wasn’t afraid to share. He was always there to help family and friends when they needed it.
His parents John and Helen Hamson, Evelyn Hamson and Muriel and Ivie Speirs and his aunt Emily Hamson predecease Norm.
Norm is survived by his loving wife Verna, children Patrick (Kim)Hamson, Cheryl (Gord)Goodwin, Garth Hamson, Carrie (Trevor)Brewer, grandchildren Tyler, Colton, Matthew, Aaron, Grady, Kristal, Kaitlan and great grandchildren Nicholas, Lincoln, Brayden, Linden and Nelson. Brothers Ron (Pat) Speirs, Tom (Vera) Hamson, sister Doreen (Dave) Grant as well as his nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at Kootenay Lake hospital for taking such good care of Norm.
