Hadfield, Anthony/Tony James
(January 12th, 2024)

Anthony/Tony James Hadfield, also known by some in his youth as Spid (short for Spiderman), passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the age of 50.
Tony was born in the market town of Ashton-under-Lyne in the North of England to parents Anthony and Jennifer (predeceased). He was always active and adventurous as a boy which continued in adulthood. He enjoyed scouts, climbing, camping, kayaking, octopush (underwater polo), rugby, triathlon, and paragliding, to name a few. Later, after moving to Canada in 1999, he also took up snowboarding, skiing, whitewater rafting and mountain biking.
Tony and his wife, Alex, were destined to marry having failed to meet while attending the same university in Aberdeen, Scotland and on a patio in Whistler in 2000 (there is photographic proof they were next to each other). They finally met in 2001 as volunteers for the Whistler Adaptive Ski Program, were engaged in 2005 and welcomed their daughter Jenny in 2006 and son Lewis in 2009, before deciding to finally get married in 2010 in Las Vegas.
Tony was a professional geologist for most of his career and was genuinely interested in rocks. He would often explain the local geology and collect samples on holidays with the kids.
Intelligent and quick witted, Tony was greatly admired and loved by his wife and children, his sister Nicola, brother-in-law Daniel, and their children Alfie and Mya. They will always love and miss him. Tony also leaves behind two pet ferrets, Slinky and Zelda.
Per Tony’s request, a formal funeral service will not be held, however the family asks that in lieu of flowers or the cost of travel to attend, donations may be made in memoriam to the nonprofit Heads up Guys at https://headsupguys.org/
Let us be contented with what has happened and be thankful for all that we have been spared.
Let us accept the natural order of things in which we move.
Let us reconcile ourselves to the mysterious rhythm of our destinies, such as they must be in this world of space and time.
Let us treasure our joys but not bewail our sorrows.
The glory of light cannot exist without its shadows.
Life is a whole, and good and ill must be accepted together.
The journey has been enjoyable and well worth making… once.
Winston Churchill
