Florence Loretta Piercey nee Rideout
Piercey, Florence Loretta (nee Rideout)
April 10, 1926 – March 14, 2015
Florence passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her home early morning March 14. Florence retried next door to her daughter and grandchildren in New Denver 25 years ago after her 28 year career as a psychiatric nurse in Ontario. She was a Hospice member and worked on the TV Society for many years. Florence was an adventurer and travelled to many far off places. She loved golfing and skiing when she was younger while later she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Florence loved birds and flowers and was a painter of these subjects. Most of all she loved her family dearly. Florence was a humanist with a very companionate heart and contributed to many charities. Florence followed politics avidly. She was a tiny woman with a large presence. Florence had a great sense of humour, the life of the party and would always speak her truth.
Florence was the eldest of 9 children, born to Adam and Evelyn Rideout (nee Grandy) in Garnish Newfoundland. Florence was predeceased by her husband Mack and three younger brothers, Aubrey (Sal), Clarence (Elizabeth) and Melvin (Doll).
Florence is survived by daughter Valerie (Hugh), grandchildren Tamlyn (Payge) and Mitchell, adopted son Rob (Cathy), grandchildren, Angie (Charley – great granddaughter), Crystal and Jonathan, sister Olive (Eric), sister Violet (Edgar), brother Everett (Vera) and brother Woodrow (Lil) still living in Newfoundland, while youngest brother Rayfield (Rhea), live in Edmonton. Too many cousins to list.
Gratitude to Dr. Burkholder for his many years of loving care to Florence and the community for their appreciation of her humour and character. Thank you to Thompson Funeral Home for their sensitivity and professionalism. A family wake and Celebration of Life took place on March 20th in her home. At Florence’s request, no service will be held.
