Chirico, Angelo

(August 26th, 2024)

Angelo passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2024 (age of 90) at Talarico Place, Castlegar, BC.  Angelo was born on January 23, 1934, in Serra San Bruno, Italy to Giuseppe and Addolorata (Zaffino) Chirico. He was the third of a large and loving family of ten children. He immigrated to Canada in 1960, and in 1964 he married Gina Borello in Nelson, BC.

Angelo started working in Italy at a young age and spent a short time working in France in the forestry industry. When he moved to Canada, he worked at the CPR and spent some time logging in the beautiful Duncan/Lardeau Watersheds until he started working at Kootenay Forestry Products in Nelson, BC. During bad fire seasons, he would sometimes help fight wildfires as a faller for the BC Forest Service. Angelo always enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially when his three sons were with him. On weekends, he would take his boys fishing, berry and mushroom picking, and collecting firewood. In 1991, after he retired, he moved to Kelowna.  It is a part of the province he loved, as it reminded him of Italy where he could grow a multitude of fruits and vegetables from peaches to eggplants.

Angelo was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Addolorata (Zaffino) Chirico; brothers, Frank (Rosarina) and Salvatore (Santina) Chirico; sisters, Carmella (Tony) Campese and Assunta Chirico; niece, Margaret Garrett.

He is survived by his children, Joseph Chirico; Salvatore Chirico (Julie); Albert Chirico (Kristy); and his five grandchildren, Angela, Giano, Sophia, Samantha, and Shelby Turk.

He is also survived by his sisters Catarina (Vito-deceased) Carchidi; Rita (Alfio) Berardo; and Yolanda (Bob) Boden; brothers, Bruno (Wendy) Chirico; Cosmo (Palma) Chirico; brother-in-law Bruno (Rafaelina-deceased) Borello, sister-in-law Rita (Rocco-deceased) La Rizza and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the care staff at Talarico Place for their loving care of Angelo during his last years. We are forever grateful for their support, compassion, empathy, patience and exceptional care.

Funeral Mass will be held on September 6, 2024, at 11:00 am, at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, Nelson, B.C. Interment to follow at the Nelson Memorial Park.
