Attwood, Grayce

Grayce Eva Roberta Attwood (nee Stephens) was born in Montreal, QC on May 1, 1926, and passed away in Fernie, BC on June 5, 2021, at the age of 95.

Grayce grew up in Longueuil, QC and loved dancing, starting at the age of 10. By the age of 15, her passion led her to open her own dancing school in Longueuil where she continued to teach for the next 10 years. She also modeled for Dr. Arthur Lismer of The Group of Seven, and danced for the 300th Anniversary of Montreal at the Chalet on Mt. Royal.

Grayce met her future husband, Dean Attwood in Grade 6. They were married in Longueuil on June 30, 1951, where Grayce taught dancing until 1956.

In 1961 Grayce and Dean moved to Nelson, BC with their daughters Deanna and Cheryl. She was active in the KLD Hospital afternoon auxiliary for 13 years. Among her other interests were cooking, gardening, traveling, and her many wild pets at her home on Kootenay Lake.

Dean and Grayce moved to Elkford, BC in 1999 where they resided for 20 years. Sadly, Dean passed away in February 2018.

Grayce is survived by daughters Deanna Attwood of Prince George, BC, and Cheryl (Steve) Mauriello of Cranbrook, BC; granddaughter Nicole (Cory) Briscoe, Blake and Jenna of Lethbridge, AB; grandson Cory Mauriello with his partner Josie and her daughter Lennon of Cranbrook; her brother Bill (Jane) Attwood of Blind Bay, BC; niece Laurie (Gerry) Allison and Russel of Clinton, BC, and her nephew Bill Attwood Jr., Johnathon, and Jessica, all of Blind Bay.
