Mother Nature sure must like golf.

Why else would the weather gal bask the region in glorious sunshine that has made the snow fly off the Granite Pointe course faster than a flash flood, allowing golf staff the opportunity to roll open the doors on the 2013 season weeks ahead of schedule.

“We’re opening the course Thursday (April 4),” said new Granite Pointe golf pro Denny McArthur Monday from the pro shop in Rosemont.

“And we had better open the course to everyone, so we’re going to open it jup Thursday.”

The news is a shock to most golfers.

As late as last week it appeared the course would need a few more weeks to dry out.

But summer-like weather during the Easter weekend in Nelson that saw the mercury reach 19 C Monday has erased what used to be mounds of snow throughout the course.

“The greens are in great shape,” said McArthur, who has more than 40 years as a CPGA years and teaching experience at Castlegar, Little Bear in the Sunflower City and Christina Lake golf courses.

The warm weather saw Granite Pointe open the driving range and putting green Monday to the public.

Thursday will see a modified course opened until a few of the wetter holes finally see winter leave for the season.

Other courses already opened for the season include Balfour, Birchbank in Trail and Christina Lake.
