Santa makes special stop Saturday in Nelson to enthusiastic crowd

There was plenty of excitement to go around as Santa, accompanied by Mrs. Claus, came to Nelson Saturday compliments of the Nelson Business Association.

The Nelson Rhythm Ropers and a group of children, who led the crowd in a variety of Christmas Carols, entertained the packed the 400 block of Baker Street as they waited for Santa’s arrival.

John McCuaig and Jay Marshall, both of The Nelson Daily and Marg Stacy of the Nelson Business Associations emceed the evening.

Once Santa arrived after travelling down Baker Street on a Nelson Fire Department ladder truck, Santa and Mrs. Claus were hoisted up high to light the Christmas trees on Baker Street before being brought down to a swarm of children, parents and grandparents.

Santa and Mrs. Claus then slowly walked as they were swarmed by the crowds into the Nelson Trading Company where there spoke with children about the upcoming big, Christmas Day.

The arrival of Santa marks the official beginning of holiday shopping season in Nelson.
