Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

This year I had the pleasure of attending the Seniors Games for the first time.

I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it and how fantastic the townspeople and the volunteers were.

From losing keys (and finding them) and eating fabulous meals at Nelson`s restaurants to riding on the Electric Tram I had a wonderful time.

Everyone was...

Hearing that NDP leader Jack Layton passed away (Monday) morning has struck me with a level of unexplainable sadness.

I first met Jack when he stepped forward to run for leader of the national New Democratic Party.

I was 23-years-old, and inspired by his energy, positive message, his creative thinking and get-to-it attitude. Jack didn't see obstacles, only opportunities...

Dear editor,

Given the comments [posted to this paper] I felt it was worth providing some additional insight from the perspective of the Kootenay Columbia Trails Society (KCTS).

The official trails network managed by the KCTS is non-motorized and there is an extensive list of reasons why. The primary reason is that 90% of the trails are located on private land. Landowners have...

To the Editor:

Over the past five months the Executive of the Trafalgar Middle School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) felt that School District #8 has been on a destructive path, both in terms of how it was working with parents and its use of flawed criteria for selecting which students would be denied an educational opportunity offered through a public education...

Dear Editor;

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report in the past few weeks that states that people should exercise caution using cell phones and similar wireless device. I have recently learned that Fortis wants to remove our safe power meters and replace them with newer wireless meters that will transmit radiation waves throughout our homes every three minutes day and...

To the editor:

The Liberals have made the HST an interesting topic of study for political scientists around the world; not in a positive way mind you, but as a fine example of how NOT to implement a tax shift.

What started as a lie in an election has now evolved into Christy Clark's attempt to buy your vote by reducing the HST rate by...

Dear Editor;

I am so happy at the way the government is handling the harmonized sales tax (HST) question. It has assured me that although the head of the snake has been cut off, the rest of the snake continues to wiggle in deceit.

The head of the snake was forced to resign when his popularity and credibility fell below 10% but Gordie was recently appointed by Stevie Harper to the...

To the Editor:

It has been brought to my attention that gas prices have fallen 17 cents in the past three weeks, but not in Nelson.

It has been reported by people at the "Mall" that seniors are tired of paying through the nose for gasoline in Nelson, when all other surrounding cities have much cheaper gas prices.

Dear editor,

My recent expulsion from a Rossland City Council meeting has been widely reported.  What wasn’t reported was the events leading to that situation or the inaccurate, unfounded, and misleading statements presented by Mayor Granstrom.

I commend RCMP Constable Scott Powell for the professionalism he displayed in handling the situation.  I was impressed by his knowledge...

RE:

Budget fails to make life more affordable for Canadian families: Atamanenko

To the Editor,

Your story “Budget fails to make life more affordable for Canadian families: Atamanenko” is misleading. As Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification...
