Kootenay Lake School District, CUPE 748 ratify agreement

In a media release Monday, School District No. 8 said Kootenay Lake and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 748 have ratified a renewed collective agreement under the Province’s Shared Recovery Mandate.
“I am pleased that SD8 and CUPE have completed what was a successful bargaining process and taken this very positive step of signing a renewed agreement,” said Superintendent Trish Smillie.
“This agreement allows all of us to focus on what we do best – to create and support the best learning opportunities we can for every student and their families across the district.”
CUPE Local 748 President Michelle Bennett said she would like thank the members of CUPE 748 for their support through this bargaining process.
“The bargaining committee worked hard to advocate for improvements to the rights and benefits of our members,” Bennett said.
“There were some difficult challenges during this round of negotiations, and we are grateful that both sides were able to come together with a focus to provide the best learning environment for the students of School District 8.”
CUPE Local 748 is comprised of the support staff of Kootenay Lake School District #8 as well as the employees of Creston and District Community Complex and Creston Public Library.
The Kootenay Lake School District boundaries are from Meadow Creek which is North of Kaslo, to Slocan, then South to Nelson and Salmo over the Kootenay Pass, or over the ferry through Crawford Bay and Creston all the way to Yahk.
The renewed collective agreement is in effect from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2025.
