The Taghum Hall “Perogies for Peace” generously donated over $1,000 to the Ukraine Refugee Family that has arrived in Nelson.

The Taghum Hall board and community members met in early May to make over 74 dozen Perogies as a fund raiser. This was a community effort as donations of the food items came from:

  • Kootenay Coop, Save On Foods, and Lorry Mann.

There was enthusiastic positive energy from the Taghum Hall board and community members to fill, pinch, package and sell the perogies. It was a fun fantastic commuinity effort. The Taghum Hall also is providing the twin boys a week of summery camp at the ‘Creative Spaces” program.

The Ukrainian family of four is being hosted by Tanya Finley and Brent Holowaychuck’s family in Nelson thanks to the efforts of the small group of Nelson citizens of Ukrainian Heritage “Supporting Ukrainian Refugees to Nelson”.

The refugee family arrived in Nelson on May 19.

There is ongoing fundraising needed to allow the family four months to allow for some stabilization, and understanding of Canadian Culture, obtain employment, work on English language skills, and work on recovery from the war.

There is one more family yet to be sponsored by this group.

There is a tax deductable crowdfunding website the public can check out to donate.
