June roundup at Taghum Hall

It’s a race to see which will get longer this spring: the grass on Taghum Hall’s lovely grounds, or the list of goings-on at the Hall.
The Taghum community Society, which oversees both greenery and good times at the hall, holds its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hall.
Billed as a “short, informative meeting with a bunch of really nice people,” attendance has its perks, as a progress report on the Hall’s kitchen rebuild project will be presented, new board members will be elected (folks are invited to put their names forward), there will be door prizes, and attendees will go home with a warm, fuzzy feeling of community.
On Sunday, June 11 from 2 – 4 p.m. the much-anticipated (and twice-postponed) Book Lovers’ Tea goes ahead, replete with three courses of delectable treats, lovely local music, and titillating trivia. Organizer Heather emphasizes that literary smarts are not required.
“Even if you haven’t read a book since Dick and Jane Go to Taghum Hall, this tea is for you,” she says.
“The Book Lover part means that each table will pay homage to a renowned author and will be decorated accordingly—but tea-drinkers have the option of chatting about the author or just gossiping about what goes on in their neighbourhood, all the while enjoying a traditional three-course menu of savouries, scones and sweets. You’ll still be eligible to win one of the wonderful prizes even if you’ve never heard of Margaret Laurence!”

Registrations are now open for Taghum Hall’s Creative Spaces summer full-day camp for kids 7 – 12 years old.
This is the eighth year of Creative Spaces, which features activities in music, theatre, dance, and visual art facilitated by talented locals, all taking place inside and outside beautiful Taghum Hall. Kids can be signed up for one or more weeks beginning July 10, 17, and 24.
The cost is $275 per week, and discounts and bursaries are available. Folks can register at taghumhall.ca or email events@taghumhall.ca with questions about this, or pretty much anything happening at the West Kootenay’s most active community hall.
