Victim unharmed following early morning car-jacking attempt

An attempted car-jacking, a confrontational flute player, a rocking concert and a parade were some of the calls experienced by Nelson Police during the recent reporting period of September 1-7.

The most shocking responce of the o 165 calls for service in the City of Nelson happened in the early hours of Wednesday, September 4 when an individual made a 911 call to report being threatened at knifepoint in an apparent car-jacking.

Nelson Police received the 911 call at 3:58 a.m. that a man threatening the driver of a truck with knife.

Nelson Police officers attended the scene quickly to find the the victim unharmed and still in the area.

“The suspect fled when he realized that he would not be getting away with the vehicle, but he was apprehended a few blocks away,” Nelson Police said in a media release.

“The suspect was arrested for robbery, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Flute player causes disturbance

Nelson Police said that on Sunday September 1st, at 1:39am, police were called to attend a business, which reported that a man was loudly playing the flute inside their establishment.

Nelson Police said when asked to stop, the flute player became confrontational.

Officers were able to identify and locate the individual and give him a warning about causing a disturbance.

BC/DC Concert

The concert, held at the Nelson Visitors Centre at the foot of Baker Street, was the 20th anniversary of the Nelson Road Kings and 25th anniversary of BC/DC.

Opening act for the evening was Nelson’s own Arcana Kings, with John McCuaig the lead singer.

“Members patrolled the event to make sure everything ran smoothly,” Nelson Police said.

“As might expected with 700 tickets sold, there were some files generated for over-intoxication, sneaking into the venue, public stripping, and noise complaints, all of which officers were quickly able to deal with.”

Nelson Police said, mostly, this was a great event and the department is so happy to have talented performers in the community.

Nelson Pride Parade

To kick off the week, Nelson Police participated with traffic control in the annual Pride Parade on Baker Street.

“Everything went smoothly, with a large crowd coming out to show their support,” Nelson Police said.

“Thank you to our reserve member who volunteered to help at the event with our regular officers.”
