LVR hosts UBC-Okanagan Heat men's basketball intra-squad game

Basketball fans in Nelson will a chance to see university athletes in action as the UBC-Okanagan Heat men’s basketball squad will be in the Heritage City for a team building retreat on the September 27-29th.

Highlighting the weekend will be an intra-squad game open to the public Saturday, September 28th at 7:15 p.m. at the L.V. Rogers gymnasium (formerly the Hangar).

The Heat, finishing the 2023-24 season with a 6-14 record, play on the Canada West University circuit against national hoops powers from Victoria, Calgary, Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Some of the players back for another season under the guidance of head coach Clayton Pottinger and assistants Justin Thiessen and Sunny Ahluwalia are guards Jalen Shirley (4th year), Jeffrey Tezo (5th year) and Gavin Ashworth (4th yearand forwards DJ Frye (4th year), Jas Dhudwal (5th year) and Elan Kimpton-Cuellar (5th year).

Doors open for Saturday’s game at 6:50 p.m..

Cost is $5 for Students & $10 for Adults.

The Heat open the Canada West season October 4 in Ontario for an exhibition trip.

On Friday, October 4 UBC-Okanagan meets Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa before travelling to Toronto to face TMC Bold.

On Sunday, October 6 the Heat battle Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo, Ont.
