Local athletes score medals at BC Senior 55-plus Games
Local athletes from the West Kootenay— Boundary zone shined bright at the recent 2024 BC Senior 55-plus Games in Salmon Arm.
Some of the medal winners included Roma Crispin of Balfour capturing gold in the women’s golf 55-74 division for Flight 1 Low Net.
Crispin is a member at the Balfour Golf Club.
Other winners included:
The husband and wife team of Justin Willans and Tanis Bourchier from Nelson winning gold in mixed 60-64 pickle ball 3.0 doubles. Willans added a bronze medal with Andy Gullen in men’s 55-64 3.0 pickle ball doubles.
Gary and Ann Armstrong of Nelson also won gold in pickle ball mixed 64-plus novice 2.5 doubles.
In tennis, Anne Kwan of Nelson and Monique Pellerin of Castlegar won bronze women’s 75-79 doubles while the swim team of Kathy Letham of Nelson, Marilyn Johnstone of Castlegar, Joan Hooper of Christina Lake and Christine Bottger took home the bronze medal in women’s 4 X 25 meter freestyle relay.
In cycling, Nelson riders John DeVries won the silver in men’s 55-59 Road Race while Larry Bickerton won silver in men’s 70-74 Hill Climb.
In golf, Kevin Melanson won bronze for low net in men’s 55-74 while Wayne Vienneau took the silver in men’s 75-plus for low gross.
South Central captured the team standings with 284 medals.
Okanagan-Similkameen was second at 250 while the West Kootenay-Boundary finished seventh overall with 81 medals, including 34 gold, 27 silver and 20 bronze.
In 2025, Nanaimo will be the host city for the BC Senior 55-plus Games, September 9-13.
