As the course faces an uncertain future, Granite Pointe Golf Club can hang its hat on the fact the Rosemont track is going out a winner.

Granite Pointe returned to the winner’s circle Saturday, capturing both trophies at the prestigious Boyd Haddad Tournament at the Rosemont Course.

It’s the first time since 1979 that Granite Pointe won both sides of the tournament.

The tournament, that attracted teams from throughout the East and West Kootenay — including Nelson, Castlegar, Trail and Balfour in the West and Kimberley, Cranbrook, Fernie and Creston in the East — rotates through the golf courses as the home venue.

The course that hosts the tournament generally has the advantage because of local knowledge, but the event is still very difficult for any of the eight clubs to win both as the winning team needs to have all 16 players contributing at some point to the winning score.

Granite Pointe won the Low Gross Boyd Tournament by a 12-shot advantage over Creston. Granite Pointe finished the 18-hole event with a score of 272.

Local rival Balfour was third at 275 followed by Castlegar at 282 and Kimberley at 285.

On the Haddad Net side of the event, Granite Pointe edged Balfour by five strokes with a final tally of 262.

Creston was third at 269 followed by Kimberley and Castlegar, tied for fourth at 273.

This is the first time since 2000 Granite Pointe has won the tournament, which dates to 1937 when the Boyd side of the event was staged.

Granite Pointe most recently won the Boyd side in 1996, 1999 and 2000.

Granite Pointe won the Haddad tournament in 1994, 1995, 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Granite Pointe’s team was selected after players entered respective scores to Men’s Club Captain Fred Thomson, who determined the final 16 players.

For many of the Granite Pointe players, who have been on the Boyd Haddad team for many years, like A.J. Cooper, it’s their first ever Boyd victory.

The Granite Pointe squad also included a wide range in age, with 79-year-old golfer Howie Ridge and 20-year-old Khai Barth, who also won the 2024 Men’s Club Championship at Granite Pointe earlier this summer, on the team.

Granite Pointe Team included:

Boyd Side – Jeff Langin, AJ Cooper, Nick Kennedy, Harv Goodwin, Greg Mufford, Luke Jansma, Rob Little, Khai Barth

Haddad Side – Fred Thomson, Ron Van Zanden, Dennis Langlois, Howie Ridge, Bob Hall, Rex Scarbo, Jim Goruk, Mike Barbari
