BC Highway Patrol Nelson request public assistance regarding extremely erratic, dangerous driver

BC Highway Patrol Nelson said Wednesday in a media release that officers are requesting witness and dash cam footage for an extremely erratic and dangerous driver during the Labour Day weekend in the West Koootenay.

BC Highway Patrol Nelson said on Saturday, August 31 ,2024 RCMP Nelson, Trail and Castlegar detachments received several urgent 911 calls about an erratic driver traveling at speeds near 200 kilometers per hour, swerving into oncoming traffic and passing vehicles unsafely.

“Several collisions have also been reported,” BC Highway Patrol Nelson said.

“In one such incident, the driver ran into the rear of an off-duty police officer driving his personal vehicle on Highway 3A near Taghum.”

“A short distance later, the driver crashed his vehicle on Highway 3A near Nelson right in front of two BC Highway Patrol members who were about to try and pull him over,” BC Highway Patrol Nelson added.

BC Highway Patrol Nelson said a 47-year-old male from Alberta was arrested at the scene with the black Honda Ridgeline with Alberta licence plate was spotted traveling between Trail, Castlegar and Nelson between the hours of 9 and 10 am.

BC Highway Patrol Nelson are conducting a criminal dangerous driving investigation for this occurrence and would like to speak to any witness who may have been run off the road, have dashcam footage or have witnessed this event.
