Two men hospitalized with gunshot wounds in Trail following targeted shooting

Trail and Greater District RCMP said officers responded to a report of men suffering gunshot wounds over the weekend.

In the weekly media release, Trail and Greater District RCMP said at approximately 1.22 a.m. Saturday, August 17, police responded to a report that two men has sustained gunshot wounds after they were dropped off at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, in Trail.

RCMP said that a 45-year-old Langley man and a 40-year-old Surrey man were in critical condition upon arrival.

Police said that both men were stabilized by medical staff and are expected to survive their injuries and the Southeast District General Investigation Section is assisting Trail officers with the investigation.

“We believe this incident was targeted and that the public was not in danger,” says Sgt. Wicentowich

RCMP said that the investigation is ongoing and if anyone has information, or witnessed the incident, please contact Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

Motor vehicle crash leads to significant drug seizure in Rossland

Trail and Greater District RCMP said that on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3:24 p.m. a frontline officer responded to a report of single motor vehicle incident on Highway 3B near Rossland.

RCMP said a 42-year-old Warfield man and his passenger sustained injuries after he crashed his vehicle on the highway.

Police said the vehicle was heavily damaged and the airbags deployed with both occupants treated by BCEHS.

RCMP said that speed and the driver’s condition and attentiveness were believed to be factors in the crash.

During the officer’s investigation, police said that the officer located approximately 1.75 kilograms of a substance believed to be Cocaine, $1500, and cell phones inside the crashed vehicle.

The 42-year-old Warfield man was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and released by the officer at scene.

He and his passenger were transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for additional medical treatment. 

 “Excellent work by our officer in this matter when seizing a significant quantity of drugs. The drugs are believed to be worth around $80,000.” says Sgt. Wicentowich.

RCMP said that the matter remains under investigation and the investigator will forward a report to Crown Counsel recommending criminal charges.
