Nelson’s Jaspreet Kaur Batra is taking part in the 2024 Miss Universe Canada pageant this month in Windsor, Ontario.

As a first-time pageant participant, Batra has had to learn about public speaking and stage walking, and brings her dedication to community, compassion and equity to the competition.

Born in India, Batra, has worked there as a dental surgeon and B.C. public service, and will soon be starting her Masters in Business Administration.

The pageant winner will go on to represent Canada at the Miss Universe International pageant.

This pageant’s activities are similar to other pageants, with a greater emphasis on community service and personal narrative, which attracted Batra to the competition.

“Their goal is to see that you are engaged in philanthropic things in your community, and you are contributing to your community and also support big charities,” Batra explains.

“They want to see you have grace and also a strong mind.”
