Local golfers tee it up at BC Men's Senior Championships

A group of local golfers teed it up against the best players in the province at the BC Men’s Senior Championships at the Revelstoke Golf Club.

Reg Clarkson, of Balfour and Bob Hall, Paul Burkart, Fred Thomson and Gary Schmidt, all of Granite Pointe, were in a field of 156 players vying for the top prize at the 6,248-yard par 72 course.

The tournament was won by Steven Savage of Surrey, who edged Tommy Ross of Coldstream by one stoke in the 54-hole event.

Savage finished with a 2-under-par 218. John Gallacher of Burnaby was third at 220.

Clarkson was the top West Kootenay player, finishing tied for 19th overall at 230. After two sub-par rounds by Clarkson’s standards, the Balfour Course manager finished the tournament with an even par round of 72.

Hall finished tied for 71st with a score of 245 while Thomson was next in 85th spot.

Burkart placed 89th overall while Schmidt was tied for 102nd.
