High class and fashionably elegant TRASH FASHIONS will once again enliven the Capitol Theatre stage in Nelson, BC on Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m.

The affair is called Haute Trash! Trash Fashion Show Competition and Art Exhibition.

This is the second annual of this exciting event, and last year it was incredibly well-received by the community!

In this runway style trash fashion show, artists and designers ranging in age from 10 to 100 years old can compete to win cash and prizes with their original designs crafted from post consumer waste and up-cycled materials.

Ensembles and accessory pieces will grace the runway, and trash art will be on display. There will also be some trash-themed performances of dance, music, theatre, spoken word and puppetry by the likes of the RhythmTrash Orchestra, the Marvelous Mavericks and Ocean Waves among other local favourites.

The aim of this inclusive community event is to generate awareness about the garbage we generate, our relationship to it, and imagining creative ideas to keep items out of the landfills all while engaging in and appreciating art and the artistic process.

“We all amass waste, that’s just a fact of life,” says Haute Trash organizer, Marilyn Hatfield, Nelson’s Cultural Ambassador for 2020.

“The Haute Trash event provides us with the opportunity to alter the lens through which we see this garbage and re-imagine it into beautiful and innovative wearable art and sculpture.”

To see the inspiring ways in which all manner of post consumer waste like candy wrappers, bubble wrap, cat food bags, garbage bags and old dvds, etc. have been transformed into ball gowns, casual wear, vests, hats, handbags, rugs, sculpture and more, get your tickets for the June 15th show today.
