Fatal crash near Trail takes life of Grand Forks man

On Saturday, June 8, at 1:11 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP and BC Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision between a motor cycle and a commercial transport truck on Hwy 22, near Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“A 53-year-old Grand Forks man was riding his motorcycle southbound on Hwy 22 when he allegedly veered into the oncoming lane and struck the front of a commercial transport truck,” Wicentowich said.
“The truck driver attempted to veer out of the way but was not successful. The motorcyclist was believed to have been killed on impact. The truck driver was shaken up over the incident but believed to be uninjured.”
He said Trail RCMP, with support from BC Highway patrol, conducted an investigation at the scene and the highway remained closed for several hours. Trail RCMP discovered that 53-year-old Grand Forks man was unlicensed and prohibited from driving within the Province of BC.
The incident occurred in an active construction zone; however, it was not believed to be a factor in the cause of the incident. The BC Coroner Service and Worksafe BC were notified about the incident.
