Ursa Project partners with City to offer discount on bear resistant garbage bins

The Ursa Project and City of Nelson are collaborating to take the bite out of bears in the community.

The two are working together to bulk purchase Toter bear resistant garbage bins for interested residents.

“Now is your chance to get one, at bulk plus municipal cost,” said a spokesperson for the Ursa Project.

“These bins are certified bear-resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee.”

There are two sizes available:

  • 64 gallon ($426.71)
  • 96 gallon ($434.31)

Anyone interested in making a purchase must place a 50% deposit is required to order a bin — payable to the City of Nelson.

The balance due upon pickup or before delivery.

Prices include taxes and shipping.

Interested residents can email theursaprojectnelson@gmail.com to allow for ordering the correct number of bins.

The Ursa Project, founded in 2022, is a registered non-profit society located in Nelson.

The organization focuses on fostering harmony between humans and bears by actively promoting responsible coexistence, achieved through advocacy, outreach, and education.

“We believe that through increased awareness and collaborative efforts within our community, we can work towards achieving a significant reduction in the number of bears being killed each year.”
