Music and landscape take the stage at Taghum Hall

Music steeped in landscape is on the menu at Taghum Hall when two musicians from Vancouver Island, John Gogo and Allen Dobb, take the stage on Sunday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Western balladeer John Gogo hails from a musical family in Snuneymuxw (aka Nanaimo). He’s best known for writing and performing folksongs about the people and places, and the true and the tall tales of the West Coast—the islands in particular.
From Haida Gwaii to St. John’s, John has played community halls and big houses, festivals pubs, and theatres — and now Taghum Hall.
Joseph Blake of the Victoria Times hails Gogo as “One of the most talented singer-songwriters this area has ever produced.”
Victoria-based singer-songwriter Allen Dobb is on tour after recording his new album, Alone Together, a collection of ten new original songs drawn from characters, stories, and landscapes that are part of his experience working as a range management specialist in the interior of B.C. The vein of the Fraser River and BC’s interior landscapes run through many of his new songs.
Peter North, reviewer for the Edmonton Journal, describes Dobb as “one of the finest and most literate tunesmiths in the country.”
“These fine musicians will play separate sets, but “we do have two hearty helpings of ‘Canadiana’ to sing together. I won’t say exactly what those are ‘cause it’s a surprise,” says Gogo mysteriously.
