Taghum Hall’s April calendar is a feast for all ages
A concert, a one-woman play, and an all-ages Earth Day event take the spotlight in Taghum Hall’s April Calendar.
The Taghum Community Society, a non-profit organization, aims to build community one event at a time, and this month’s lineup of these, along with regular drop-in activities, doesn’t disappoint.
The Taghum Hall Presents series offers two performances in April.
Celebrated Australian singer-songwriter Daniel Champagne takes the stage April 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and the word is definitely out.
Champagne was originally slated to play one concert on April 10, but even before promotion could happen the event was nearly sold out, so a second concert was added. While online sales are now closed, there are still some tickets available at Taghum Shell and Eddy Music.
World events make the one-woman play on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. feel especially timely.
Nelson poet, artist, and performer Zaynab Mohammed performs “Are You Listening?”, a carefully woven narrative that traces centuries of colonization and displacement and reflects on what is learned through the art of listening.
Fellow artist Bessie Wapp will join Zaynab on stage for a Q&A after the performance. Tickets are available at Taghum Shell, Otter Books, and online at taghumhall.ca.
Taghum Hall’s Earth Day, on Sunday, April 21 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., is a much-anticipated annual event with something for everyone, including live entertainment, fun contests, eco-oriented info-booths and vendors, a kid’s zone, seed swap, and more.
Refundable bottles are welcome to help fund the Hall’s eventual kitchen renovation. Admission is by donation.
Heads up that Kids Can Sew returns May 1, running six Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. for kids aged eight to 14.
Community mentors make the experience productive, educational, and fun. A registration fee of just $60 includes all supplies. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged through taghumhall.ca.
Drop-in programs are accessible, low-barrier, community-building fun for anyone.
Table Tennis happens every Monday from 5-7 p.m., and Watercolour and other media happens Tuesdays from 10 – 12 noon.
