Doukhobor historical memoir launches at the Nelson Library

In a time of war and division, Vera Maloff’s newly published book on one man’s pacifist convictions has never been so relevant.
That one man was Vera’s grandfather. They Called Him a Radical: The Memoirs of Pete Maloff and the Making of a Doukhobor Pacifist is a collection of his memoirs, written while under house arrest for his pacifist views.
History enthusiasts and social justice thinkers alike can expect a thoughtful and informative reading at the book launch, which is a free event happening on Wednesday, April 24, 7 p.m. at the Nelson Public Library.
Pete Maloff lived through the eras of WW1 and WW2 and yet was completely dedicated to the idea that there must be another way to solve conflicts other than violence.
His thoughtfully considered ethics are a guide for the present as we seek justice for the Earth and for those oppressed.
Vera Maloff, author of Our Backs Warmed by the Sun, Memories of a Doukhobor Life, has been a faithful chronicler of Doukhobor history since her retirement.
She is excited to share her grandfather’s ideas with a larger audience through the launch of the book:
