Cancer Wheels of Hope looking for drivers in Nelson

Did you know that the simple act of driving can help cancer patients?

The Canadian Cancer Society is recruiting drivers for the City of Nelson.

“Our driving program is available on Vancouver Island, the Interior (Okanagan) and in Prince George,” a Canadian Cancer spokesperson said.

“We are now expanding this service to other cities and towns including the City of Nelson.”

Accepted drivers will assist Monday through Friday (no weekends), receive a Mileage reimbursement or tax receipt available work flexible hours and know they are helping someone in the community.

Qualifications include:

  • Must be available 1⁄2 day/week or a few days/month minimum
  • Valid driver’s licence (3 or less demerits)
  • Criminal background check and references upon request
  • Must follow all CCS policies and procedures

“The decision to volunteer was simple – my wife and I have enjoyed a nice life in this community and want to pay it back through volunteering,” said Volunteer driver Glen B.

“As a volunteer driver for Wheels of Hope, I have something rewarding that keeps me busy and lets me meet so many nice people.”
