Nelson Minor Hockey grad, Reece Hunt, earns WCHA top forward honours
Reece Hunt of Nelson was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Forward of the Week following a five-point performance during a sweep of St. Thomas this past weekend in Duluth.
Hunt, who played minor hockey in Nelson and was on the roster of the Kootenay Wildcats for three seasons before attending the Okanagan Hockey Academy Female Prep program, posted back-to-back multiple point games for UMD, which included a total of two goals, three assists and five points.
Hunt, 22, was tied for second in the league for most goals (2) and most points (5) over the weekend.
In the wins over St. Thomas, Hunt compiled four shots on goal, two blocked shots and was an impressive +5 on the plus/minus charts.
Hunt, in her first season at the UMD following four years at Bemidji State University, now has 13 points in 10 games for the #7 ranked Bulldogs (6g, 7a).
Of note, Minnesota Duluth currently owns a six-game winning streak and is 8-2-0, 6-2-0 WCHA in 2023-24.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is a college ice hockey conference which operates in the Midwestern United States.
Hunt, the daughter of Carla DeBiasio and Jeff Hunt, is the sister to Calgary Flames forward Dryden Hunt.
