A Kootenay chef has won Season 7 of the Great Canadian Baking Show, a CBC series and spinoff of the Great British Bake Off.

Loïc Fauteux-Goulet of Creston recently won the title.

“I was proud to represent BC and the Kootenays,” the native of Quebec said after returning to the East Kootenay City.

“BC is the home that I chose which makes it super meaningful and important for me. A year and a half ago we decided to move to Creston and fell in love with the Creston Valley and settled here. Since we chose this location so purposefully, it makes me so proud.”

For Fauteux-Goulet, taking part in the multi-week competition demanded strength of character.

“Learning how to bake in the tent as a whole is a challenge,” he said.

“You might be very comfortable in your kitchen but time flies differently when you interact with judges, hosts and cameras. It was a challenge of character.”
