Bombers swim team claim medals at BC High School Sports Championships

A handful of Bombers returned from the BC High School Sports Swimming Championships held this past weekend with some impressive results, highlighted by the amazing performances of Kallie Badry and Megan Bonikowsky.

Badry and Bonikowsky advanced to Saturday final witih Badry finding her way to the podium with a pair of amazing races.

Badry, competing in the B category which consists of summer swimmers capped at two hours of coaching from September to April, earned a silver medal in the Girls 100 Individual Medley B event with a time of 1:10.30.

Badry also captured a bronze medal in the Girls 50 Breaststroke B event with a time of 35.97  .

Badry finished fourth in the 50 Backstroke B event in a time of 32.80 and 100 Freestyle B event in a time of of 1:02.80.

Meanwhile, Bonikowsky, competing in the Open Category which is comprised of swimmers who train all year around, placed ninth in the 50 Freestyle Open event with a time of 27.43, 10th in the 100 Breaststroke Open event with a time of 1:16.74  and 10th in the 100 Freestyle Open event with a time of 59.59

This is the first time Bonikowsky has been able to finish under a minute in the 100 Freestyle event.

The other Bombers attending the BC High School Sports Swimming Championships, held November 17-18 in Nanaimo, were Elle Farragher and Christian Farraher.

Both swimmers had great swims during the preliminaries on Friday.

The Bomber are coached by Kootenay Swim Club skipper Niallan Collier.
