Bombers Senior Girls claim Silver at BC High School Cross Country Championships

L.V. Rogers runners made the most of a trip to the Lower Mainland to compete in the BC High School Cross Country Championships Saturday in Surrey.

The Bombers Senior Girls earned a Silver medal in the AA Team event while Senior Boys runner Mitch Erickson came within a whisker of a medal, finishing seconds out of third spot during the Provincial Meet held at Crescent Park.

Aleah Smith highlighted the Bombers runner-up performance with a 10th place finish. Smith finished in a time of 19 minutes, 46.20 seconds.

The race was won by Rachel MacDonald of Southridge High School in a time of 18:01.40.

The remaining Bomber results included:

  • Ruby Nay — 21st  20:26.00
  • Opal Lewandowski — 28th 20:48.40
  • Maina Hetu — 32nd 21:12.70
  • Mya Abraham — 55th 22:11.20
  • Allison Hung — 83rd 23:46.00
  • Maelle Cordier — 113th 27:54.50

Meanwhile Erickson narrowly missed the Bronze medal in the Boy’s AA 5 km race, finishing 3-tenths of a second — 15:46.30 — behind the third-place runner from Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary.

Peter Kunka of Summerland won the race in a time of 15:31.00.

Cade McCarthy of LVR finished the race in a time of 19:46.90.

In the Junior Boys 4 km event, Trafalgar’s Dawson Abraham finished 10th in a time of 13:49.80.
