Nelson runners tune up for 2023 BC Cross Country Championships following success at Kootenay Zones
L.V. Rogers and Trafalgar runners booked spots for the upcoming provincials following a successful showing at the Kootenay Zone Cross Country Championships Wednesday in Salmo.
Highlighting the Zone Championships were Trafalgar’s Dawson Abraham and LVR’s Mitch Erickson, winners of the Junior and Senior Boy’s races, respectively.
Abraham won the Junior Boy’s four kilometer race in a time of 13 minutes, 20 seconds. Noah Glickman finished second with Colton Sutherland third.
In the Senior Boy’s five kilometer race, Erickson won the Kootenay title, edging Wes Robinson of Fernie and Tali Cox of Nakusp.
Nelson Home School runners Oscar and Octavia Masse won the Grade 7 races.
The LVR Senior Girls claimed the overall team title after the squad captured seven of the top 10 spots.
Louison Dubeif of Fernie won the race with LVR runners — Aleah Smith, Maya Abraham, Ruby Nay, Opal Lewandowski, Mania Hetu — claiming the next five spots.
Allison Hung and Maelle Corider finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
The race attracted teams from Kimberley, Fernie, Cranbrook, Trail, Nakusp, host Salmo, Midway, Mount Sentinel and LVR and Trafalgar.
The BC High School Cross Country Championships are set for Crescent Park in Surrey, November 4.
