Kootenay Chaos runner claims Spokane race

Dawson Abraham of the Kootenay Chaos Track Club has quite a week on the cross country running circuit.

The Nelsonite traveled to Spokane during the weekend to capture a race in the Lilac City.

Abraham, who attends Trafalgar Middle School, won the 5km race in a time of 16 minutes, 30 seconds.

Abraham was competing against the top high school school junior varsity runners from Washington and Idaho.

Abraham tuned up for the Spokane race by claiming the Junior Boy’s Division at the opening race of the Kootenay High School Cross Country circuit at Selkirk College in Castlegar.

The Trafalgar runner finished the 4.1 km Junior Boys race ahead of Ryder LeBlanc of L.V. Rogers and Canyon Cardinal of St. Joe’s.

Mitchell Erickson won the Senior Boys Division, edging Bomber teammates Art Lewandowski and Cade McCarthy.

Other Division winners included:

  • Senior Girls — Opal Lewandowski of LVR
  • Junior Girls — Soliel Bitting of Rossland
  • Grade 7 Girls — Emily Olineck of Rossland
  • Grade 7 Boys — Oscar Masse of Homelinks

The West Kootenay Cross Country schedule resumes Wednesday in Salmo at the Ski Hill course.

The rest of the West Kootenay Schedule includes:

  • Oct 11th – Morning Mountain – hosted by Trafalgar
  • Oct 18th – Winlaw Golf Course
  • Oct 25th – East/West Zones hosted at Salmo Ski Hill
  • Nov 4th – Provincials in Surrey
