It was a very exciting night for several 561 Nelson Osprey Air Cadet Squadron air cadets.

Recently, a handful were promoted, including Brandon Brook, who received the highest rank in the cadet program, Warrant Officer First Class.

Brook has been the squadron since 2017.

With this new rank, Brandon will be the senior cadet of the 39 cadets in the squadron and first Warrant Officer First Class in the squadron since 2020.

There were several other promotions the same evening. Justice Ward, Brooke Sonnichsen and Ashley Sonnichsen were all promoted to Warrant Officer Second Class.

In the next month, the cadets will be flying in powered aircraft from the Nelson airport, be starting their air rifle program and helping the Nelson Legion with Poppy distribution.

New cadets are welcome any time and may register online at  or come to any training night in person.

Cadets are between the ages of 12 and 18.

Adults who would like to volunteer with the squadron or join our Squadron Sponsoring Committee are also welcome.

For more information, you can contact the squadron by emailing 561air@cadets.gc.ca.
