The Cultural Development Committee (CDC), on behalf of the City of Nelson, is inviting applications and nominations for the position of Nelson’s 2024 Cultural Ambassador.

The award comes with an $1000 honorarium, with the winner announced at the City’s Annual Reception in December.

Applications and nominations are welcomed for established artists of all disciplines who will be showcasing their work in 2024. Preference will be given to those who extend their engagement outside of Nelson, in addition to within the community.

“The Cultural Ambassador program is entering its sixteenth year, and the response we’ve had from the community has been tremendous,” says Sydney Black, Chair of the Cultural Development Committee.

“The roster of talented professionals we’ve had representing Nelson is impressive:  Robin DuPont, Jane Byers, Roz Nay, Marilyn Hatfield, Alison Girvan, Slava Doval, Eileen Delehanty Pearkes, Ian Johnston, Bessie Wapp, Amy Bohigian, Lucas Myers, Hiromoto Ida, Anne DeGrace, Angelika Werth, and the Corazon Youth Choir. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the City to recognize and reward the exceptional talent we have here.”

The CDC established this honour in recognition of local individual artists, groups or collectives who have achieved a high standard of excellence in their artistic discipline and who are active not only in Nelson’s cultural community but extend their talents to other communities and countries.

The Cultural Ambassador is expected to represent and promote the City of Nelson on their travels, increasing the visibility and cultural reputation of Nelson. In return, the Cultural Ambassador can use their official designation in their own promotional materials, programs and fundraising.

Deadline for submissions is October 31st.
