The L.V. Rogers Bombers opened the High School Girls Volleyball season with a Bronze medal finish at the 32-team tournament held over the weekend at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.

The Bombers defeated Vernon’s Fulton Secondary by forfeit in the Tier 2 Final.

LVR finished third in pool play, losing to Mount Boucherie before defeating Westsyde of Kamloops 2-0.

The Bombers split with Duchess Park from Prince George  — ranked 5th in the province — to finish third in the round robin.

Saturday, LVR opened with a straight set win over Kelowna Owls B squad before experiencing a heartbreaking loss to seventh-ranked Little Flower Academy of Vancouver.

The Bombers looked to be a lock to win the game, but Little Flower Academy erased a 10-point LVR lead in Game two to secure the match.

Bombers back on court in Mount Sentinel

LVR travels to South Slocan this weekend to compete in the Mount Sentinel Invitational.

The tournament includes the host Wildcats along with teams form Stanley Humphries in Castlegar, Fernie and Kimberley .

Games start  at 3:30 pm. Friday with the finals set for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bombers travel to Kelowna the first two weekends in October for tournaments at UBCO and Kelowna Secondary for the Best of the West.

Long Road to Provincials

The goal for LVR is to advance to the BC High School Girls AAA Volleyball Championships in November.

First the sixth-ranked Bombers must get past zone rival J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks in the West Kootenay Final.

Then the Bombers must raise money for travel to the host site in Dawson Creek.

To help defer costs, the Bombers are hosting a Men’s and Women’s Volleyball 6 V 6 Tournament October 22 at the Hangar.
