RCMP arrest man following drugs, cash seizure at Shambhala Music Festival

RCMP said that a man is facing criminal charges after allegedly dealing drugs at a local Shambhala Music Festival near Salmo.

RCMP said that on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. police were initially notified by the festival security after getting a report that a large amount of drugs were being sold by a festival attendee from his recreational vehicle (RV).

Police arrived and were directed to the recreation vehicle in question where a large amount of money, drugs and drug paraphernalia were located.

RCMP said that over $145,000 and 100 grams of suspected controlled substances were seized.

Police also arrested the occupant of the RV, whom they identified as a 45-year-old man of Vancouver.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.

The media release comes after RCMP said officers checked numerous vehicles during before and after the Shambhala Music Festival , which was held July 20-24 on a 500-acre farm located in the West Kootenay mountains.

RCMP said officers removed three impaired and three prohibited drivers off the road, had more than 400 contacts for speeding — 37 reported as excessive which is more than 40 kilometers over the limit — and 55 other violations.

RCMP also reported that the body of a man was recovered from the Salmo river following the festival.
