Granite Pointe's Reg Clarkson finishes fourth at BC Senior/Super-Senior Golf Championships
Reg Clarkson of Nelson came ever so close to tasting victory Thursday afternoon in Williams Lake at the BC Senior/Super-Senior Golf Championships.
After firing a three-under-par round of 68 Wednesday to put himself into contention, the Granite Pointe at Nelson Manager carded a four-over-par 75 to finish tied for fourth spot at the 54-hole event played the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club.
Andrew Pinette of Surrey carded an even-par round of 71 to finish the tournament at 212, four shots better than Mike Legg of Prince George.
Scott Humphreys of Kelowna took third spot with a 217 total followed by Clarkson at 218.
Mark Dupuy of Victoria also finished at 218.
After opening the tournament with a round of 75 Tuesday, Clarkson shot up the leaderboard with a three-under-par 68 Wednesday.
Clarkson did not record a bogey while earning birdies on the third, seventh and 13th holes.
Thursday, playing in second to last group, Clarkson dropped a shot after a bogey on the first hole.
He registered pars on the next 12 holes before finishing with bogeys on three of the next four holes to fall out of contention.
Last year Clarkson finished in the top 23 at the 2022 BC Senior/Super-Senior Golf Championships to qualify for the Canadian Championships in Red Deer.
Clarkson shot 78-80 at the Red Deer Golf Club, but missed the cut in the 140-plus field.
Bob Hall of Granite Pointe, playing in his first provincial championship, finished tied for 70th with a three-day total of 237.
Hall opened with a round of 82 before shooting 77 Wednesday and 78 Thursday.
Another Senior rookie from Granite Pointe, Paul Burkart, concluded the tournament tied for 128th with a three-day score of 82-86-86-254.
The provincial tournament attracted 144 golfers from throughout BC.
Granite Pointe hosting Second Kennedy Shootout
Spots are filling up fast for the second annual Kennedy Shootout, Sunday, August 27th at Granite Pointe.
The two-person scramble event has a guaranteed first prize of $2,000 with other prizes for KP’s, Top Five Teams and Simulator KP Contest.
There are also two $10,000 prizes for a Hole-in-one.
