Nelson Police investigating string of break and enters
A 26-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, June 20, 2023 following a string of break-and-enter attempts in the Heritage City Nelson Police said in a media release.
Nelson Police said the man started the crime spree at the Shell Gas Station on Nelson Avenue before targeting businesses in the Railtown district of the Heritage City.
- At approximately 12:30 am a male attended the Shell Gas Station at 301 Nelson Avenue. The male tried the door but staff told him that they could only help him through the after hours window. The male then allegedly smashed the front window and entered the store damaging displays and stealing items.
- At approximately 1:40 am a male was observed in the area of the 100 block of Herridge Lane where it is alleged that he was looking through vehicles and then attempted to steal a bicycle.
- At approximately 2:11 am a male approached the front doors of Nelson Farmer’s Supply, produced a glass breaking tool and broke the window. The window although shattered did not fall out the frame. The male suspect walked away.
- At approximately 2:14 am a male smashed the front door glass of the Rona store at 29 Government Road. The male entered the store and stole several items.
Nelson Police said investigators worked diligently on the file and were able to identify and arrest the male suspect later that morning.
“The 26-year-old male of no fixed address is facing charges in relation to all four events and has been remanded in custody pending a future court date,” Nelson Police said.
