UPDATED: Human remains found in Beasley area house fire confirmed to be missing man: Nelson Police

The Nelson Police Department said Friday that human remains discovered following a recent house fire in the Beasley area are those of a missing Nelson man.

Nelson Police said the Department was recently advised by local RCMP that, while conducting the investigation into the house fire in the Beasley area human remains found at the scene of the fire were confirmed of Mr. Mahoney.

Nelson Police said that the BC Coroner’s Service have since confirmed the remains are that of 44-year-old Mr. Mahoney, who went missing on Saturday, December 10, 2022, near Safeway in Nelson.

Nelson Police said that Mr. Mahoney’s next of kin have been notified.

RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service continue to investigate.

Nelson Police request public assistance in locating missing man

Nelson Police is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a Nelson man who was last seen at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, near Safeway in Nelson.

Nelson Police said that 44-year-old Mr. Mahoney went missing near the grocery store located at 211 Anderson Street in Nelson.

Mahoney’s description is:

  • Caucasian male
  • 5’10” tall
  • approximately 180lbs.
  • short brown hair and blue eyes
  • short beard

Nelson Police and its partner agencies are concerned for the well-being of Mahoney and wish to locate him as quickly as possible.

Nelson Police said that 44-year-old Mr. Mahoney went missing near the Safeway grocery store located at 211 Anderson Street in Nelson December 10, 2022.
