The only store and café in Uphill district of the Heritage City, The Uphill Market, underwent a change.

There is new ownership and a massive renovation and now, is open to the public for the first time in three years.

Formerly Burrell’s Grocery, the location has been a corner store since 1902 and offers everything from groceries and daily household essentials to coffee, ice cream (in the summer), soup, sandwiches, and even fresh farm eggs.

For new business owner Amy O’Neill, it’s a dream come true.

“Much of the emphasis of me doing this is creating a community hub for the uphill residents. I want to be a spot where people can come and gather and get what they need,” says O’Neill.

Once the idea for the business came to O’Neill, a first-time business owner, she says there was no turning back.

“I started to dream, and the idea was stuck in my head and wouldn’t go away.”

From dream to reality, starting the store has been an interesting ride. Read more about Amy O’Neill and The Uphill Market in The Nelson Daily Daily Dose.
