Erickson, Abraham strike gold at Provincial Cross Country Club Championships
Two Kootenay Chaos runners won gold medals at the BC Provincial Cross Country Club Championships this past weekend at Crescent Park in South Surrey.
Matti Erickson and Dawson Abraham both captured gold medals in their respective races.
Erickson, who travelled from the University of Oregon where the Chaos runner is on scholarship with the Ducks team, won the gold in the U20 division.
Erickson won the 8-kilometer distance in a time of 25 minutes, four seconds.
Second was Isaac Baker of the host Ocean Athletics Club and Ignacio Mijares of the Vancouver Thunderbirds.
Abraham easily outdistanced the field of 38 runners to claim the U14 3km race in a time of 10:27.
Casey Hemstead of the NorWesters Track Club was second, seven seconds behind Abraham with Liam Reid of the Penticton Track Club third at 10:36.
The medals add to an impressive season for Abraham, who won four medals — two gold, and one silver and one bronze — at the BC Track and field Championships
Erickson also won three medals — three gold in the 800 meters, 1500 meters and men's relay race — during the summer Canadian Track and Field Championships that qualified the Nelson runner for the World U20 Track and Field Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
